How far should I hold the camera from my teeth?
Keep the Wand™ camera approximately 1 cm away from your teeth while scanning - not too close so we cannot see the tooth clearly, and not too far away that it isnt focussed. The Toothfairy app will guide you through capturing the areas required for your scan.
Do I have to keep the camera attached while brushing?
No. The camera is not designed to stay attached during your normal daily brushing routine. Simply attach your Wand™ camera when it's time to complete a scan, then remove it and store it safely when you're finished.
Are there privacy risks with an in-mouth camera?
We've designed the Wand™ around the same principles of patient confidentiality we follow as dentists. You only attach the camera when you choose to complete a scan. Once submitted through Toothfairy, your dental scans are handled securely and reviewed by our dental team as part of your Toothfairy service. We don't send your scans to external companies for them to assess your teeth. As dentists, we treat your digital dental records with the same care and confidentiality we would expect for records created in a physical dental clinic.
Does the Toothfairy Wand™ work with braces?
The Wand™ can be used to brush around many types of orthodontic appliances, including fixed braces. Braces can create additional areas where plaque and food collect, so your dentist or orthodontist may recommend additional cleaning techniques or interdental products. If you're currently undergoing orthodontic treatment, follow the specific advice given by your treating clinician.
Can I recycle my used Wand™ brush heads?
Yes. We don't want your old brush heads simply ending up in the bin. Wand™ members can send their used brush heads back to us for recycling, helping make regular replacement a little more sustainable.
When should I replace my Wand™ brush head?
We recommend replacing your brush head approximately every three months, or sooner if the bristles become visibly worn. With a Wand™ membership, you don't have to remember. A fresh replacement head is automatically delivered every three months, so you're always ready for your next one.
Is the Toothfairy Wand™ waterproof?
The Wand™ is designed for normal bathroom use and everyday brushing. Always ensure the USB charging cover is completely closed before use and never use the Wand™ while it is charging. Follow the care and safety instructions supplied with your Wand™ and avoid unnecessarily submerging the device.
How do I clean my Wand™ toothbrush?
After brushing, remove the brush head and rinse it thoroughly with water. Rinse away any toothpaste residue from the top of the handle and allow the brush and head to dry. The detachable camera should be cleaned according to the care instructions supplied with your Wand™. Always make sure the charging port cover is securely closed before using your Wand™ around water.
What is the Wand™ battery life?
The Wand™ has a 1500mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, providing up to approximately 45 days of use, depending on your brushing habits and selected mode. It recharges conveniently using USB-C.
Can I travel with my Wand™?
Absolutely. The Wand™ has been designed for everyday life, including travel. Its long-lasting rechargeable battery means you won't necessarily need to take your charger on shorter trips, and the Wand™ can be stored in its travel case when you're on the move.
Does the Toothfairy Wand™ connect to an app?
Yes. The Wand™ experience is powered by the Toothfairy app. The app is where you can complete your Wand™ scans, securely submit images and stay connected to our dental team. It's what turns the Wand™ from simply an electric toothbrush into part of a connected dental-care experience.
Which toothpaste should I use with the Wand™?
The Wand™ can be used with most standard toothpastes. For most adults, we recommend brushing twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and following the advice of your dentist for any specific oral health needs.
Is the Wand™ suitable for sensitive teeth and gums?
The Wand™ includes a Gentle mode for people who prefer a softer brushing experience. If you have persistent sensitivity, bleeding gums, gum disease or another dental condition, speak to your dentist for personalised advice rather than relying on your toothbrush alone. And, of course, Toothfairy members can speak to a dentist through the app.
Does the Toothfairy Wand™ have different cleaning modes?
Yes. The Wand™ has five brushing modes: Clean — for everyday brushing; Gentle — for a softer brushing experience; Power — for a more intensive clean; White — designed to support stain removal; Polish — for that smooth, freshly cleaned feeling. You can choose the mode that feels most comfortable for you.
Can the Wand™ help me see where I've been missing when brushing?
Yes. One of the biggest problems with brushing is that it's difficult to see what you're missing. Using images captured with your Wand™ camera, your dentist can help identify areas that may need more attention and provide personalised feedback through the Toothfairy app. Less guessing. Does a real dentist review my Wand™ scans?
Yes. The Wand™ was created to connect your everyday oral care with real dental professionals. Your submitted dental scans can be reviewed by our licensed dentists through the Toothfairy app, helping you understand areas that may require more attention and identify changes that may need further investigation. The Wand™ does not replace an in-person dental examination, X-rays or treatment where these are clinically required.
How often should I scan my mouth?
We recommend completing a Wand™ scan every few months so your dentist can review your mouth and monitor changes over time. The Toothfairy app will guide you through the process and help you understand when your next check-in is due.

Who is Toothfairy?

Do I need a Toothfairy membership to use the Wand™?
The Wand™ can still function as a sonic electric toothbrush without completing dental scans. You can also do a live view; however, a Toothfairy membership unlocks the wider experience the Wand™ was designed around, including regular replacement brush heads and access to its connected dental-care features. Is the Wand™ intended to replace my dentist?
No — quite the opposite. We created the Wand™ to bring you closer to your dentist, not replace them. At-home scans and remote dental reviews can help you stay engaged with your oral health between appointments, but there will always be things that require an in-person examination, dental X-rays, diagnostic tests or treatment. If your Toothfairy dentist believes you need to be seen in person, they'll advise you accordingly.
